Looking for a small extra activity to add to October half-term around Manchester? Find Maestro brings a free school-year challenge to participating local venues, including youth and community spaces in Salford and nearby stops in Littleborough, Glossop and Alderley Edge.
The poster hunt runs from Monday 5th October to Friday 13th November 2026. Look for a poster during a visit, scan the QR code, try the question and discover your Maestro’s rarity. Some venues are session-based, so plan around places your family can actually attend.
Salford Youth Zone for eligible young people
Salford Youth Zone has a Find Maestro poster on display. Its own programme gives young people opportunities to explore activities such as sport, art and music. Check the session that fits your child’s age and its membership arrangements before visiting.
The Youth Zone advertises provision for ages 8 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, with different sessions for different groups. The free Find Maestro challenge is separate from the Youth Zone’s own attendance arrangements and any visit charge.
Community and youth venues across Salford
The following participating venues give you several local starting points. They host their own activities and may have restricted access or session times. Contact the venue to check whether your child can attend and when the poster is available.
- Boothstown Community Centre in Boothstown and Bridgewater Youth Centre in Little Hulton.
- Brookhouse Community Centre on Buckthorn Lane and The Castle Community Centre in Eccles.
- The Deans Centre in Swinton and The Den in Walkden.
- Broughton Youth Hub in Broughton and Beacon Centre in Charlestown.
- Cadishead Hall Community Centre in Cadishead.
A creative stop in Littleborough
The Star Tree Studio CIC in Littleborough is another participating Find Maestro venue. The studio describes its work as art, craft and creative activities for children. Check its current sessions, age ranges and booking information, then look for the poster while attending a suitable visit.
You could extend the creative theme at home by asking your child to design a character of their own. What would its special skill be, and what kind of puzzle would it set?
A nearby café visit in Glossop
Pico Lounge in Glossop has a Find Maestro poster on display. It is in Howard Town Shopping Park, making it one option if your family already has a Glossop trip planned. Glossop is in Derbyshire, so this is a nearby outing beyond Greater Manchester.
Look for the poster during your visit and let your child talk through the question while you take a break. Taking part in the challenge is free; food and drinks are purchased separately. Check the venue’s current opening hours before travelling.
A café stop in Alderley Edge
Lily and Rosie Cafe in Alderley Edge also has a Find Maestro poster on display. This Cheshire venue offers another nearby option for families already spending time in the area. Check its current opening information before making a special journey.
For a quick follow-on puzzle, let your child invent a café order with a pretend budget. Ask what they could choose and how much change they would have. Keep it separate from ordering so the game stays relaxed.
Other participating locations with access to check
Renold Building in Manchester and The Railway in Marple also have Find Maestro posters on display. Check directly where their posters are displayed, whether families can access them and any age or opening restrictions. A campaign listing does not mean a building is a walk-in family attraction.
How to take part
Find a poster at a participating venue, scan its QR code and follow the on-screen steps. Select the venue and school year, answer the challenge and reveal your Maestro. Young people can also vote on features or designs for the upcoming Maestro learning app.
Challenges cover school years from primary through A-Level. Younger children can read with an adult, while older children can explain their thinking or try a question independently. The activity can be a short part of an outing or a session your child is already attending.
Plan for the venue you choose
Check your school’s half-term dates and the live venue map first. Then check opening hours, eligibility, membership, booking and any charges with the host. Youth centres are not necessarily open for whole-family drop-ins, and café or studio hours may differ from nearby attractions.
The Find Maestro poster challenge is free. Host activities, admission, food and drinks may cost extra. A phone is needed to scan the QR code and open the challenge. Ask your chosen venue about accessibility or support before travelling if that would help your visit.
More ideas for half term
For games you can try wherever you live, our national learning guide has number riddles, storytelling and everyday maths ideas without worksheets. If you are planning a Derbyshire library visit, our separate branch guide lists the participating libraries.
Find a Maestro near you
Choose an accessible local venue or add the poster challenge to a nearby trip you already want to make. Check current participation before setting off and enjoy seeing which Maestro you reveal.
The campaign ends on Friday 13th November 2026. For the separate prize draw, a parent or guardian aged 18 or over must follow the parent page and entry instructions, subject to the campaign terms. Completing the challenge does not automatically enter you.
